It's no secret that the pyramids of Egypt are a wonder of the world. They're massive, awe-inspiring structures that have stood the test of time for over 4,500 years. But did you know that there was once a guy who tried to destroy them? Yep, that's right - his name was Al Mamoun, and he was the seventh Abbasid caliph.
Now, you might be wondering why anyone would want to destroy such an impressive feat of engineering. Well, it turns out that Al Mamoun was a devout Muslim, and he saw the pyramids as symbols of Egypt's ancient pagan past. So, he ordered his men to dismantle the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Unfortunately for him, the pyramid was built to last. Al Mamoun and his crew tried everything from fire to brute force to try and take it down, but the pyramid refused to budge. In fact, all they managed to do was leave a giant hole in the north face of the pyramid. Whoops.
But let's be real - the fact that someone tried to destroy the pyramids just goes to show how impressive they really are. They were built by the ancient Egyptians, a civilization that was both advanced and innovative. And let's not forget that the pyramids were just one of many impressive feats of engineering that the ancient Africans accomplished. From the Great Sphinx to the Temple of Karnak, the African people built some truly remarkable structures that still stand to this day.
